An Appeal

This is an appeal to the entire world famous SIKH SINGERS (Especially to those who does not wear Turban/Keep beard).

You are the Icons of the Sikhism to….

  • The WORLD
  • The world outside the Sikh Religion.
  • The world outside INDIA

The youth, the young generation admires you, Loves you & tries to follow you.

They try to copy you, your songs which has popularized the PUNJABI language in the world.I am very thankful to you, so does the other general Sikhs, for your contribution towards spreading the Sikh/Punjabi culture in the every nook & corner of the world.

But I regret to say that your OUTER LOOK above the NECK is transmitting false signal to the world especially to the younger generation who is copying your outer look also. Instead of keeping long uncut-tied hair inside the TURBAN on their head they have shaved their BEARD, KESH etc. to some extend to look alike you.

As you have contributed towards popularizing the Punjabi Songs, Punjabi Pop/Folk songs etc.You can also contribute towards popularizing the message of the Sikhism, the message of our GURU to the world merely by your LOOK.

I appeal to you to make your look according to the Sikh norms i.e.

· Long uncut-tied hair & the TURBAN on your head.

· To have beard & mustaches

· Etc.

Just like Sardar Asa Singh Mastana (Yesteryear's Great Singer 1926~1999)

Just Like Sardar Ishmeet Singh ji

Just like Sardar Daler Singh ji (S.Daler Mehndi ji),Sardar Baljeet Singh,Sardar Vikram Sawhney....

Please think over it.

Hind Di Chadar

On 24th November 2009 is the 334th Martyrdom Anniversary of GURU TEG BAHADUR JI who sacrificed his life for the protection of Hinduism in India at Chandni Chowk,Delhi

An extremely important event in Sikh history that had a profound impact on the future direction of Sikhism, the religion of the Sikhs,Guru Teg Bahadur undertook the supreme sacrifice for the protection of the most fundamental of human rights - the right of a person to freely practice his or her religion without interference or hindrance. In the modern day we tend to take this freedom for granted – but in 1675, millions of people were denied this basic right in India under the Mughal Rular Auranqzeb.

However, what is even more astonishing is the fact that the Guru was not protecting the right of the Sikhs to practise their religion but instead the rights of non-Sikh peace-loving people from Kashmir. These people from Kashmir were very respected Hindus who were being converted to Islam under the threat of death by the Muslim Emperor, Aurangzeb. In 1669, the Mughal ruler Aurangzeb departed from the policy of tolerance practised by his predecessors and unleashed instead a policy of religious persecution against non-Muslims. This caused large-scale demoralisation, fear and panic among the people.

The commitment by the Sikh Guru to protect and support the liberty of all the people of a country was unprecedented. This type of supreme sacrifice had never previously been recorded in human history. On May 25, 1675 in reply to an appeal of a large group of revered Kashmiri Pandits, Guru Tegh Bahadur made the momentous decision that has forever changed the level of moral commitment, dedication and sacrifice required by followers of God. The Guru made this critical decision to risk laying down his life if necessary to protect the right of the Hindus to follow their religion freely without interference or duress.

The Guru was put in chains and ordered to be tortured until he would accept Islam. When he could not be persuaded to abandon his faith to save himself from persecution, he was asked to perform some miracles to prove his divinity. On his refusal, Guru Tegh Bahadur was beheaded in public at Chandni Chowk on 11 November 1675. Guru Ji is also known as "Hind Di Chadar" ie to save Hinduism, Guru Ji gave his life

Sikh

Duties of the SIKH towards GOD (WAHEGURU, AKAAL PURAKH) as described by Guru Ram Das Ji (The Fourth Guru Nanak)
Fourth Mehl:
One who calls himself a Sikh of the True Guru,
shall rise in the early morning hours and meditate on the Lord`s Name.
Upon arising early in the morning, he is to bathe, and cleanse himself in the pool of nectar.
Following the Instructions of the Guru, he is to chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.
All sins, misdeeds and negativity shall be erased.
Then, at the rising of the sun, he is to sing Gurbani;
whether sitting down or standing up, he is to meditate on the Lord`s Name.
One who meditates on my Lord, Har, Har, with every breath and every morsel of food
- that Gursikh becomes pleasing to the Guru`s Mind.

Dewali OR Bandi Chhor Diwas

Sain Mian Mir and Wazir Khan (Governor of Lahore) approached Emperor Jahangir on behalf of Guru Hargobind Sahib (the 6th Guru Nanak) and secured the releasing orders. When Guru Sahib met Jahangir immediately after his release, he insisted upon Jahangir for the release of other fifty-two Hindu Princes on his personal surety (These Princes were said to be the rebellious ones).
The request was obliged and all the prisoners were released in 1612.
Then the title of "Bandi Chhor Baba" was given to Guru Hargobind Sahib and is still remembered by this name.
From Gwalior (where Guru ji was imprisoned) Guru Sahib reached Amritsar on the occasion of Dewali. This was a big occasion for the Sikhs. It is said that Baba Budha Ji littered the earthen lamps throughout the Amritsar city.
The Sikhs celebrated this occasion enthusiastically. From this day the Sikh Nation began to celebrate Dewali festival as " Bandi Chhor Diwas " also.

Now the attitude of Jahangir and his empire towards Guru Sahib changed considerably and remained favorable and friendly till his death.

Sikhism - Have a quick look

1) The Founder of Sikhism is Guru Nanak Sahib ji
2) Sikhism is a practical religion. It does not consist in a certain set of beliefs or mere words.Religion does not imply wandering to shrines and tombs, or following austerities of Yogis. Sikhism is a way of life, something to be lived according to a pattern. Its main virtue is simplicity. There is no supernaturalism or mythology on which it rests. It does not believe in devils or angels or heavenly spirits.
3) Sikhism is a universal religion.
4) Sikhism is opposed to all ritualism and formalism.
5) Sikhism does not enjoin blind faith. Blind obedience to an external authority is dis-couraged. The death of the intellect can not be a condition of the life of the spirit. Faith does not start with surmises or absurdities.
6) Sikhism is a faith of hope and cheer. Though it affirms Karma, it recognises the possibility of the modification of one's Karma with the grace of the Guru or God. It does not lead to despair and defeatism.
7) Sikhism is a democratic religion. The decisions of the Sangat are regarded as resolutions having the force of law (Gurmatta) Guru Gobind Singh Sahib vested the authority of the organisation in the Panth.

S.Banda Singh Bahadur (1670~1716 A.D.)

Salute to great Sikh Warrior Sardar Banda Singh Bahadur who gave all but not his beliefs

S.Banda Singh Bahadur was the First Sikh Ruler of Undivided Punjab (India)
A great warrior, true sikh, able administrator & a GREAT MARTYR. In a short span of EIGHT years has acheived many milestones.
Born in 1670 as Lachman Dass and later when he becomes BAIRAGI & was called Madho Das Bairagi, because of his detachment from family life.
He met GURU GOBIND SINGH Ji in 1708 when GURU Ji visited his Dera in Nanded (Maharastra,India).
Bairagi tried his many tricks and magic to impress the Guru, but failed. He soon realized that the visitor to his 'dera' was no ordinary person, but a great master. He fell to the feet of the Guru and felt solace in his mind. When the Guru asked him who he was, he answered, "Master, this is your Banda (slave)."
He gets the Baptism from Panj Pyara's in the presence of Guru Gobind Singh Ji (in 1708AD) and becomes "A SIKH" & thus called Sardar Banda Singh Bahadur.

Maharaja Ranjit Singh (Singh is King)

Maharaja Ranjit Singh ( 13th November 1780 – 27th June 1839) also called "Sher-e-Punjab" ("The Lion of Punjab") was the principle Sikh ruler of the sovereign country of Punjab and the Sikh Empire. He was the second Sikh King after the First Banda Singh Bahadur.
His sons were, in rapid succession, the others rulers but their rule was short lived. The Maharaja was born on 13th November 1780 in Gujranwala now in modern day Pakistan,
into the Sansi-Sandhawalia family. At the time, much of Punjab was ruled by the Sikhs , who had divided the territory among factions known as misls.
Ranjit Singh's father Maha Singh was the misaldar ("commander", "misl leader") of the Sukerchakia
misl and controlled a territory in west Punjab based around his headquarters at Gujranwala. Ranjit Singh succeeded his father as the misaldar, at the young age of 12. The name of his mother was Mai Raj Kaur who was the daughter of the king of Jind. She was also known by the name of ‘Malwain’.
Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s Empire extended from the Khyber Pass in the west, to Kashmir in the north (touching) the border's of Tibet, to the Sind River in the south and in the east to Himachal Pradesh.
The main geographical footprint of the empire was Punjab (historical Punjab region including present days Himachal Pradesh,Haryana).
The religious population demography of the Sikh Empire was Muslim (60%),Hindu (25%) and Sikh (15%).

This great warrior, fearless soldier, able administrator, clement ruler, statesman and liberator of Punjab died on 27th June 1839. His Samadhi (memorial) is located in Lahore now in Pakistan.

I pay my tribute to this GREAT KING of Sikh (Punjab,India) history.

Maharaja Ranjit Singh is included in the list of "Undefeated Military Commanders", [1] at Wikibin - a list of known military commanders who did not lose any significant engagement against the enemy as the commander-in-chief of a significant portion of a country's military forces.

Bhai Vir Singh Ji

Bhai Vir Singh (December 5, 1872 - June 10, 1957) was a poet, scholar and theologian who was a major figure in the movement for the revival and renewal of Punjabi (Language) literary tradition. His identification with all the important concerns of modern Sikhism was so complete that he came to be canonized as Bhai, the Brother of the Sikh Order, very early in his career. For his pioneering work in its several different genres, he is acknowledged as the creator of modern Punjabi literature.
Born on 5 December 1872, in Amritsar (Punjab,India), Bhai Vir Singh was the eldest of Dr.Charan Singh’s three sons. The family traces its ancestry back to Diwan Kaura Mall (d. 1752), who rose to the position of vice-governor of Multan, under Nawab Mir Mu'ln ul-Mulk, With the title of Maharaja Bahadur.
Baba Kahn Singh (1788-1878) was, perhaps, the first in the family to become a Sikh. He became a recluse when he was still in his early teens and spent his entire youth in monasteries at Haridvar and then at Amritsar acquiring training in traditional Sikh learning. His mother's affection ultimately reclaimed him to the life of a householder at the age of 40, when he got married. Adept in versification in Sanskrit and Braj as well as in the oriental system of medicine, Baba Kahn Singh passed on his interests to his only son, Dr Charan Singh.
Apart from his sustained involvement in literary and scholarly pursuits, mainly as a Braj poet, Punjabi prose-writer, musicologist, prosodist and lexicographer, Dr Charan Singh took active interest in the affairs of the Sikh community, then experiencing a new urge for restoration as well as for change.

Sikh Guru - The Meaning of GURU

The word "Guru" is a Sanskrit word meaning teacher, honored person, religious person or saint. Sikhism though has a very specific definition of the word Guru. It means the descent of divine guidance to mankind provided through ten Enlightened Masters. This honour of being called a Sikh Guru applies only to the ten Gurus who founded the religion starting with Guru Nanak in 1469 and ending with Guru Gobind Singh in 1708.

Thereafter it refers to the Sikh Holy Scriptures the Guru Granth Sahib. The divine spirit was passed from one Guru to the next as "The light of a lamp which lights another does not abate. Similarly a spiritual leader and his disciple become equal, Nanak says the truth."

"They distinguish and separate one Guru from the other. And rare is the one who knows that they, indeed, were one. They who realised this in their hearts, attained Realisation of God." (Guru Gobind Singh, Dohira, Vachitra Natak)

Martyrdom of Guru Arjan dev ji (5th Guru of sikhs)

16th June 2009 is the 403rd Anniversary of martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev ji

On the 16 June of every year since 1606, the Sikhs have commemorated the martyrdom of their first martyr, the fifth Guru,Guru Arjan Dev.Sikh history until then had been peaceful and non-violent. All the Sikh Guru had taught the message of compassion, love, dedication, hard work, worship of one God and the commitment to peace and harmony for all the peoples of the world.

By the orders of the Mughal Emperor Jahangir, the fifth Guru, Guru Arjan Dev was tortured to death in Lahore (now in Pakistan) (1606 A.D.)
The Guru was much respected religious steward of the Sikhs who gave them the holy Guru Granth Sahib in A.D. 1604.
He got built Santokhsar in A.D. 1588; Sri Harimander Sahib in 1589; Sarowar and the Darbar Sahib Tarn Taran in 1590.
The city of Kartarpur (Punjab) was built and populated in 1594.
The Muslim bigots could not tolerate the spread of universal message of peace and brotherhood of mankind as preached by Sri Guru Arjan Dev ji.
Guru Arjan dev ji is also called "Shaheedon Ke Sartaaj" The King of Martyrs as he is the First Sikh to achieve martyrdom.
Sri Hargobind Sahib succeeded to Gurgaddi after the martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev Ji.

Chhota Ghallughara (lesser holocaust)

17th May 2009 is the 264th Anniversary of Chhota Ghallughara (lesser holocaust) I pay my TRIBUTE to the GREAT MARTYRS of Chhota Ghallughara.
In Brief :-
In order to avenge the death of his brother, Diwan Lakhpat Rai, again launched an all-out campaign and set forth with a large army. The Sikhs were brought to bay in a dense bush near Kahnuwan, in the Gurdaspur district. They put up determined fight, but were overwhelmed by the superior numbers of the enemy and scattered with heavy losses. They were chased into hills. More than 7000 sikhs attained martyrdom in Two & Half Month long fighting in 1746AD. "To complete revenge" says Syed Mohammad Latif, another historian of the Punjab, "Lakhpat Rai brought 1000 Sikhs in irons to Lahore, having compelled them to ride on donkeys, bare-backed, paraded them in the bazars. They were, then taken to the horse-market outside Delhi Gate, and there beheaded one after another without mercy." So indiscriminate and extensive was the killing that the campaign is known in Sikh history as the Chhota Ghalughara or the lesser holocaust. The Wadda Ghalughara or the greater holocaust was to come later.

Ghallughara (Bloody Carnage)

With the creation of Khalsa on March 30,1699AD, the Khalsa created history and since the birth of Khalsa, the history of Punjab has been the history of Sikhs.
Baisakhi played a significant role in this regard. In 1762, Ahmed Shah Abdali, with the sole purpose to destroy the entire Sikh nation, declared 'Jehad'(holy-war) against the Sikhs and all the Muslims of the Punjab rallied under this slogan.
The Sikhs were surrounded near the village Kup in Ludhiana District. Chronicles mention that about twenty thousand Sikhs were martyred in a single day. This event is known in the history of the Sikhs as "Ghallughara" (Bloody Carnage).
After this, Ahmed Shah Abdali thought that he had crushed the entire Sikh nation, but was greatly disillusioned when after a few months heard that the Sikhs in large number are celebrating Baisakhi at Golden Temple Amritsar.
In due course of time Baisakhi reminds every Sikh of his cultural and religious heritage. On Baisakhi day all the Sikhs used to assemble at Amritsar and decide their problems relating to politics and religion. This convention still goes on.

BAISAKHI OR VAISAKHI-THE BIRTH DAY OF KHALSA

Baisakhi is generally celebrated on the First Day of BAISAKH (Indian month)

On this memorable Baisakhi day on March,30 of A.D.1699 , Guru Gobind Singh Sahib ji-The tenthGuru ( Master) of the Sikhs, called a big meeting at Kesgarh Sahib near the City of Anandpur Sahib,Punjab INDIA.
Between fifty to eighty thousand Sikhs attended this meeting. When all were expecting to hear words of comfort and consolation from the lips of their Guru, they were perturbed to see him with a drawn sword in his hand and cried ' Is there anyone here who would lay down his life for Dharam?'
There was a big silence, but the Guru went on repeating his demand.

At the third call Daya Ram, a Khatri of Lahore, rose from his seat and offered himself. The Guru took him into an adjoining enclosure and soon after came out with the (blood) dripping sword in hand and flourshing it before the gathering, asked again, 'Is there any other Sikh here who will offer himself as a sacrifice(for the cause of dharma)?

At this Daram Das, a Jat of Delhi came forward and was taken into the enclosure. The Guru again came out with the blood-stained sword, and made his previous demand. In the same way three other men stood up, one after another, and offered themselves for the sacrifice. One was Mohkam Chand, a chhimba of Dwarka (Gujarat State); another was Himmat, a cook of Jagannath (Orissa State); and the third was Sahib Chand, a barber of Bidar (Karnataka State).

The Guru, after dressing the five in handsome clothes, brought them from the assembly.

These five were then administered 'Khande di Pahul' (the double-edged Sword Amrit). They were then knighted as Singhs, as the Five beloved ones (Panj Payare), the first members of the Order of the Khalsa.
The Guru then asked them to administer the Pahul (Sikhism's way of Baptism) to him in the same manner in which he had given the Pahul to them, and it was done so.

The
Baisakhi is generally celebrated on 13th April every year. This year as per the NANAKSHAHI CALANDER the Baisakhi is on 14th April 2009

DAMAGING EFFECT OF HEAVY METAL (URANIUM) ON THE PEOPLE OF FARIDKOT (PUNJAB,INDIA)

Heart throbbing fact that Traces of URANIUM found in Human Body in Faridkot.

Yes, It’s really a Shocking Fact to know that Alarming High Level of URANIUM Traces found in 149 Urine samples taken from the Faridkot. (Refer Times of India New Delhi edition Dt.02.04.2009 Page12)

Further to deepen the Shock is the fact that effected persons are none other than the KIDS. Who are unable to do their Daily routine activities such as eating foods, unable to keep their head straight?

This sensational TRUTH has been revealed by the Visiting Team of Toxicologist Doctors who comes from South Africa Johannesburg to study the abnormal behavior of the effected children of Faridkot.

Dr.Karlin Smit-Visiting South African TOXICOLOGIST send these samples to German Laboratory – Specialized in Toxicology.

And the result is shocking TRACES OF URANIUM which has damaged the brain of the effected kids.I myself shocked to read this NEWS in TOI New Delhi edition Dt.02.04.2009 as there is in general NO SOURCE OF URANIUM In Punjab especially in Faridkot.

I don’t know what the Government of Punjab especially it’s Health department is doing??

They must take immediately some corrective and preventive measures to safeguard the Human Life’s in Faridkot in particular & Punjab/India in general.

My suggestions to the Punjab Government are as follows:-

· To nominate the Team who finds out the possible source of URANIUM in & around Faridkot.

· To check out the possibility of any other HUMAN Victim in the other parts of Punjab India.

· As the subject is very serious. The govt must give adequate Financial Support to PGI Chandigarh for Conducting Research and studies on this subject.

· The Punjab Government must inform the Center government about this fact so that the dieses could be controlled well in time.

· Center also gives adequate support to the Visiting South African Toxicologist Team.

SAHIBZADA JUJHAR SINGH JI

(Sahibzada Jujhar Singh watches his brother Ajit Singh in action with their father, Guru Gobind Singh)
Jujhar Singh, Sahibzada (1691 - 1705), the second son of Guru Gobind Singh, was born to Mata Jito ji (also known as Mata Sundari ji) at Anandpur on 14 March 1691 (is now celebrated on 9 April each year - Nanakshahi calendar). Like his elder brother, Ajit Singh, he started training in the fighting skills (Gatka) as soon as he started learning the religious texts aged about 4 to 5 years. In 1699, when he was eight years old, he received holy Amrit at the rites of Khalsa initiation, called Amrit Sanskar. By the time it became necessary to leave Anandpur under the pressure of a besieging host in December 1705, Jujhar Singh, nearing the completion of his fifteenth year, was an experienced young warrior, strong and fearless.
He was one of the band that successfully waded through the flooded Sarsa rivulet on horseback and made good their way to Chamkaur by nightfall on 6 December 1705, with the adversary in hot pursuit. With little respite during the night, he participated in the next day's battle warding off assault after assault upon the "garhi", the fortified house in which Guru Gobind Singh had, along with his 40 Sikhs and two sons, taken shelter. As they ran out of ammunition and arrows, Sikhs inside split themselves into batches of five each who would go out one after the other to engage the besiegers in hand to hand combat. Jujhar Singh led the last sally towards the end of the day (7 December 1705), and laid down his life fighting near the place where he had earlier seen his elder brother fall. He was just 14 years old when he gave his life while his older brother was 18 years old when they gave their lives for their faith. Gurdwara Katalgarh Sahib in Chamkaur Sahib now marks the site.

Guru Gobind Singh ji had felt the need to revive the spirit of Holi, and weave its essence into a festival created in the Khalsa traditions.

Thus in 1701 A.D. the Sikh festival “Holla Mohalla” came into being to reaffirm fraternity and brotherhood.

Anandpur Sahib and Kiratpur Sahib in Punjab have been playing host to Hola Mohalla since then.

I AM : Captain S S Kohli (Pilot who steered flight IC 866 to safety,on 15 Feb 2009 )

News Source: timesofindia.indiatimes.com

I believe there is an omnipresent God who answers our good deeds. Everyday, we should devote some time to prayers.
That helps me, not just during the near-miss incident at Mumbai airport, but also in other aspects of my life. Everything in my life has been smooth because of Him. But God is there not just to give, you also have to work hard.
I am very religious and spend two hours every day in prayers, usually before my flight. I constantly recite one verse, "Hamri karo haath de raksha, puran hoi chit ki ichha" (Always protect me, let all my desires be fulfilled.) I also have a special puja room in my house. This is something I always wanted as a child, whenever I could build my own house. In fact, i rejected many houses as they didn’t have a puja room.
I visit the gurdwara every day after my flight lands, be it in Delhi, Bangalore, Bangkok or Singapore. I carry three religious books with me in my flight bag, including the Sukhmani Sahib and the Japuji Sahib, and don’t let anyone tamper with it. God is part of my consciousness every minute and He gives me peace and contentment. Sometimes my colleagues and friends also ask me to pray on their behalf.
I was born a premature baby, just the size of a palm and was therefore called Mickey, after Mickey Mouse. For my mother, I am a miracle child, despite the complications she had during my birth. She is my inspiration. But everyone in the family says I am a step ahead of them. I try and inculcate the same religiosity in my children, and tell them to devote at least five minutes each day to God. I make sure they do ‘ matha tek’ before going to school.
(As told to Shobha John)
